In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s,
Manoj Prabhakar was regular member of ODI side, who often open the bowling and
batting for India. He was such a useful allrounder who chips in batting as well
as bowling. One such moment came when India was chasing a stiff target of 269
put on by New Zealand. Major Prabhakar and Sachin Tendulkar provided a flying
start, and shared 144 runs opening partnership before Prabhakar falls. He scored
brilliant 74 runs off 95 Balls 131 Mins 7 Fours vs New Zealand 3rd Match,
Vadodara, October 28, 1994, Wills World Series. India won the match by 7
wickets.
Those who watched cricket in 1990’s
must be familiar with the name of Ken Rutherford. A slow pitch at the small
IPCL ground was ideal for batting: New Zealand Captain Ken Rutherford reached
his maiden hundred in his 103rd one-day international. Rutherford scored at
more than a run a ball scored 108 off 102 Balls 137 Mins 13 Fours S.R 105.88 vs

India won the match by 7 wickets.
Ken Rutherford was a slim, balanced and attractive batsman, Ken Rutherford
battled back from a dreadful start to his international career to become a
regular in the New Zealand side. But there was always the feeling that he had
not made the most of his considerable talent. Ken Rutherford enjoyed a ten-year
career with the national team, and was captain for a period in the 1990s. He is
the 50th ODI cap for New Zealand. He was a member of the New Zealand side which
reached the semi-finals of the 1992 World Cup, their 2nd equal best performance
in the tournament's history. So, cricket fans, how do you rate Ken Rutherford
innings in this match?
Watch out a Kapil Dev hammered Devon Malcom in the 2nd
Test at Chennai in Feb 1993. A pure delight for cricket fans to cherish the
vintage memories to see lusty hitting by Kapil Dev. He hit a lovely straight
six to Devon Malcom in the afternoon session. That was a pure beauty to watch a
legend is doing a murder treatment to Malcom. Then Kapil Dev whip a lovely four
to leg side off Devon Malcom bowling. Kapil Dev didn’t stop here, and smashed
another four to Malcom Bowling towards a mid-on. Then Kapil Dev smashed another
four to Devon Malcom bowling.
He also hit a four off juicy full toss by Ian Sailsbury. He also
hit a clean hit to Phil Tufnell a deep midwicket for four. He hit another four
to Tufnell using his feet and hitting so hard to straight four. In this
particular innings Kapil Dev scored brilliant 66 runs off 75 Balls 107 Mins 8
Fours 1 Six. During this innings he becomes first player in the history of

milestone. It was an historic moment.
In this video you will witness
the vintage class of Stuart Williams, who scored match winning 83 runs off 118
Balls 155 Mins 12 Fours 2 Sixes vs Sri Lanka 1st Test at St John's, June 1997. You
know chasing target in the 4th innings is always daunting task. No
matter how much target is. This time chasing a 187 target is crucial for West
Indies. But along with Sherwin Campbell, they put up opening partnership of
160 runs and laid the victory foundation. This task was not easy, as Muralitharan was at
his peak those day. But Stuart Williams played really well Muralitharan. West
Indies won the test match by 6 wickets and lead the 2-match series 1-0. Lets
watch Stuart Williams class innings and enjoy the vintage memories of Caribbean
cricket. Stuart Williams was the romantic
young stroke-player who was expected to mature into a steady item for his team.
Instead, his cavalier method - step back and strafe everything through the
covers - became increasingly stereotyped as his career wore on.
Chaminda Vaas magnificent
effort in the bowling against England. When he took 4 for 39 in 2nd innings of
2nd Test at Kandy in 11-15 March 2001. Although England won the test match by 3
wickets. But Chaminda Vaas put his all efforts and energy in the match to make the
test even at one stage. He picked up wicket of Mike Atherton, Marcus
Trescothick, Nasser Hussain, and Alec Stewart. His efforts put in England great
trouble chasing a modest target of 160. At one stage England were in great
trouble reeling 97 for 5. Chaminda Vaas was the main destroy by picking 4 top
orders wickets out of 5 falling wickets. It was a great and gripping contest
between England and Sri Lanka. Watch out Chaminda Vaas brilliant performance
and enjoy the vintage memories.
In this video watch out batting
of a forgotten England player Dermot Reeve. Who scored 59 off 125 Balls 5 Fours
on Test Debut vs NZ Ist Test at Christchurch, in January 1992? He was best
known as an unorthodox all-rounder played 29 One Day Internationals (ODI) for
England. He also played English county cricket for Sussex, Warwickshire and
Somerset.
Dermott Reeve loved to extemporize.
He would reverse-sweep the spinners to interruption, go down on one knee to
hoist the quicks over midwicket, and subtly vary the pace of his jobbing,
limbs-pumping seamers. Dermott Reeve played in the 1992 World Cup final against
Pakista at MCG. He also played in 1996 World Cup, playing (on the losing side)
in the final in the former tournament. Though, he never scored highly in ODIs,
and his batting average would have been significantly lower, but for his high
proportion of not-out innings. Perhaps his most important international innings
was a rapid 25 not out at the end of the England innings in the 1992 World Cup
semi-final against South Africa, a match which England won narrowly and reached
the final.
Although he was given just three
Tests, all in New Zealand in 1991-92. His international career would have been
longer if his ability to irk opponents hadn't extended to his team-mates. Reeve
was born in Hong Kong in 1963 to parents who were working in the territory as
teachers. His mother, Monica, later served as a scorer for a number of England
Test matches.
In the history of cricket, wicket keepers’ infrequent bowls.
Such moments came when captain see no chance of Test match result. Such type of
moment came when Australian great wicket keeper Rodney Marsh Bowling vs
Pakistan in the 2nd Test at Faisalabad March 1980. The match was heading towards
a dull draw. So, Rodney Marsh bowls like a lollypop offers to batsman. In those
era of cricket, pitches were often made slow and dead to draw the matches. In
this entire career Rodney Marsh sent just 72 balls giving away 54 wickets
without having any test wicket. So, it’s a perfect fun moment for cricket fans
to relish the vintage memories.
Devang Gandhi ODI debut innings of
30 runs off 67 balls, 116 mins, including 5 fours vs New Zealand 5th ODI at Delhi, Nov 17 1999. It was consider a slow
innings if consider the strike rate of 44.77. However, it’s a golden
opportunity to watch out a forgotten opener played for India in late 1990’s. Although,
the five boundaries showed a glimpse of his talent, but he could not settle in
international cricket due to poor technique against short pitched rising
deliveries. Devang Gandhi, in his first one-day international, and Ganguly
opened with 117 runs opening stand in reply New Zealand modest target of 179. India
won the match by 6 wickets with six overs in hand and also sealed the ODI series
3-2.
He was a right-handed opening batsman and a very occasional
right-arm medium-pace bowler. A former Indian opening batsman, Devang Gandhi,
featured for India in 4 Tests and 3 ODIs. Despite showing a lot of promise at
the beginning of his international career, Gandhi's inability to handle
short-pitched bowling meant that his days as an Indian opener were limited. Devang Gandhi poor technique against short pitched
deliveries exposed him on Australia tour of 1999-00. He played 95 first-class
matches during his career, collecting 6111 runs at an average of 42.73. He
retired in April 2006.
Courtney Walsh terrible spell of 4
for 37 in 18 Overs 5 Mdns vs India 3rd Test, Port of Spain, April 1989.
Courtney Walsh dismissed W.V Raman, Kiran More, Arshad Ayub, and Narendra
Hirwani. Watching a Tall, Giant bowler, on full rhythm is a pure delight for
cricket fans. His efforts helps West Indies to beat India by 217 runs and West
Indies led the 4 test match series by 2-0. It was a fine fearsome bowling
attack, you can see how batsman were packed with cricketing gears to face
Walsh. It was never an easy task to face a tall gigantic fast bowler in full
mood. The fearsome pace destroy Indian batting line up. A vintage cherish
moments of carribean past when fast bowling rule the world. So, Cricket Fans,
leave your comments below to show your thoughts about Courtney Walsh bowling.
Kapil Dev is a great Indian allrounder.
He often played aggressive innings those days, when test cricket was played at
slow and boring pace. Kapil Dev electrify the crowds with his attacking
mindset. Those who have watched him live on TV is lucky to witness a great all
rounder in his full flow. Similarly his innings of 97 runs off just 93 including
14 fours and 2 towering sixes in the 3rd test against England in 1982 at The
Oval. Kapdil Dev dismantled bowling of Ian Botham, Bob Willis, Paul Allot,
Derek Pringle and Phil Edmonds. This innings is a gift for Kapil Dev fans, who
loves his batting. I’m sure you will delight to watch vintage memories of
Indian tour to England 1982. Although match was drawn but Kapil Dev innings was
super amazing pleasure. Watch out and share you comments in the below.
Mohsin Khan was a such a graceful
Pakistani opener. But his career was ended in a bad way when he was extremely
struggling against the fiery fast bowling of Malcom Marshall, Courtney Walsh
and Anothy Gray. In this last test series against West Indies in 1986-87, he scored
just 48 runs in 6 innings of 3 test match series. Eventually his career was
ended due to his form struggling against short pitch deliveries. Indeed it was
a sad end of his career. He was particularly struggling against Malcom
Marshall. Lets watch few of his dismissals in his last test series.
In this video you will see Wasim Akram 50 runs off 46 Balls
62 Mins 4 Fours 2 Sixes vs India in the 3rd Match, Sharjah, played on April 07,
1995, in the Pepsi Asia Cup. Batting at Number 7, Wasim Akram played a crucial
innings to help Pakistan to post a 266 for 9. In reply, India bowled out at
just 169 and lost the match by 97 runs. Wasim Akram was useful batsman in the
lower order. Wasim Akram also a beautiful six off Sachin Tendulkar bowling on
the leg side and then whip a two lovely four off Anil Kumble bowling. Wasim
Akram also hit a beautiful four off Srinath bowling that was treat to watch.
Lets watch his video and enjoy the vintage memories of two great cricket
rivals.
Watch out brisk start provided by
Kris Srikanth against fiery attack of West Indies. Those days when odi cricket
was poisoned by slow batting, kris Srikanth becomes one of few batsman who played
shots without any fear. Facing Malcom Marshall, Courtney Walsh, Curtly Ambrose
and Winston Benjamin was not easy task. Srikanth aggressive intent helps India in
ODI’s those days. Srikanth often break bowler confidence that helps for middle
order to score freely as well.
In this inning Srikanth scored 40
off 56 Balls 4 Fours vs West Indies 4th Match at Sharjah, Oct 16 1989. Kris
Srikanth brilliant effort at the top, helps India to post a decent target of
211. Eventually prove to be enough for India to beat West Indies by 37 runs.
